Compare/Contrast to Other Diseases
Compare and contrast the spread of the avian flu with the spread of AIDS.
Hoda Hai writes: The spread of the bird flu is much different than the spread of AIDS throughout the world. Bird flu is found in birds that can be detected in the saliva, nasal passages and feces. It can be contracted through contact with these infected birds. AIDS is a human virus that started being noticed in the 1980's in which sexual contact spread the disease through blood. There have been more than 16 outbreaks of the bird flu since 1997 of the H5 and H7 strains. However, 39 million people currently have AIDS in Africa and over 27 million of those have died since the early 1980's.
Shannon Holfoth, Rachel Francis, Caitlin Moreland, Teresa Castiglione, and Katie VanUden write: The avian flu is a flu in birds, which is a virus in saliva, nasal, and feces. Daniel Szyprowski writes: AIDS and the avian flu are quite similar in the fact that the disease is not spread without contact of some sorts between individuals. Like AIDS, avian flu has also originated from an animal and made a jump to the human species.
